The Smith's

The hammer strikes the metal
As the pen marks the page
Forming a letter as metal is shaped
The pen scribbles on forming a word
The hammer blows rain down creating a blade
The words join together
As the hilt joins the blade
As both as word and a book are made
The iron smith and wordsmith
Both masters of their trade
The creations bring joy but can also bring pain

Freedom

It’s time for me to break this cage
Now I leave the nest
My wings have grown
My heart is strong
Now i must heed the call
The summer breeze calls it my name
The waves they sing to me
And all the creatures of the earth
The fish the birds the bugs
They all wait for me to join
For me to come back home
It’s time to leave this electric jail
Ruled by pigs and fools
No more will I be a number
Lost within their files
It’s time now for me to fly
To go where I belong
To break the chains of city life
And go where I am free

Why?

Why? Such a simply question but never a simple answer
Why must people always die?
Why do people lie?
Why is the sky so blue?
I haven’t got a clue.
Why do chickens give us eggs?
And why do cows make milk?
Why do fireflies always glow?
Does anybody really know?
Maybe they were made to,
Maybe it’s all planed,
It could be our duty,
It could be our crime,
Or just a way to waste our time
If there’s no point then why were we made?
Why do we live only to fade?
A simple question with no simple answer
The ultimate riddle
Why are we here?

The Block

The 6th form block a special place,
Reserved for the very best,
Meant for work but used for play
But the teachers don’t complain
A new year comes, the old one goes,
But one thing stays the same,
The groups that form every time
6 groups that never change.

The first is the tough guys,
The think the gym’s their home,
Flirting with every girl they see,
But still love a cup of tea.

Then there are the girly girls,
There make up’s always out,
Talking every chance they get,
They’d love a cute and fluffy pet.

Next come the smart kids,
The love their maths and science,
They’d never bunk or break a rule,
They practically live for school.

The fourth group is the loudest,
The popular kids are here,
Talking about all kinds of junk
And always getting drunk

Let’s not forget the jokers,
Laughing all the time,
Always smiling and ever the clown,
You’ll never see them frown.

The quiet group is last,
The masters of disguise,
They may be shy but still have fun,
They never seem to run.

These groups seem very different,
But they’re all the same.
No walls exist, we’re all the same
Within our awesome 6th form block
Where jokers laugh with shy kids,
And the smart kids teach the drunks.

Simple Pleasures

A Warm hug in winter,
A little bag of sweets,
A special offer in the store,
An afternoon by the sea,
Friends chilling in the park,
A cloudless summer sky,
The first frost of winter,
And the first bloom of spring,
An evening stretched out by the fire,
It dances in the hearth,
The Radio plays my favourite songs,
As I drift to sleep,
The little things make life worthwhile,
Yet we never note these simple things,
Until our time is done.

Simple Life

A simple life is all I want, no fast cars for me,
No sparkling gems or fancy do’s,
No garish clothes or shoes.
I don’t want wild drinking or expensive art
I don’t want the newest tech,
All I want is a quiet life with the one I love,
Far away from city crowds somewhere near the sea,
A Kitten napping on my lap,
Biscuits and some tea,
This simple life is all I want,
It’s enough for me.

Nap Time

I stretch and yawn,
Is it time to wake?
This bed is comfy,
I don’t want to play.
A few more hours then I’ll wake,
Birds can sing
Mice can dance,
They won’t get another chance.
All I want is sleep right now,
When I wake I’ll have some food,
Play with master then a nap,
A kitty cat’s life is so very hard,
It may seem simple to you,
So much work and so much effort,
I just want to snooze.

Fire Tree

Green leaves burn,
Their colour now red,
The flames burn inwards,
Starting at the tips,
Flames eat the braches,
Leaving them black,
And sparks litter the ground,
To be trampled into dust,
The last leaf falls,
Exposed to the world,
Its bones stripped bare,
The tree now waits for summer sun,
But it will burn again.

Eden

The sea glistens blue and green,
Fish play in rainbow reefs,
Gulls that fly high above, sing their ocean songs,
And waves crash against the shore,
As shells shine in the sun.

The cliff stands tall guarding the land,
Its face is strong and stern
Grassy fields full of flowers, dancing in the breeze.
Sea salt carried on the wind
Mixing with their scent.

Over a hill the sound of sheep,
Fluffy white and soft,
They roam free with the cows the pigs and chicks,
The sheep dog plays near by,
And the cat sleeps in the barn.

An quiet lake where ducks can swim,
Serenaded by the frogs,
As the may flies dance, their lives are short but sweet,
Hidden in the forest rich and green,
The trees full of song

A river flows, a silver snake,
Through the trees and hills,
Passing through a sleepy town, nestled in the hill,
Houses made of wood and stone.
The people want for nought.

In the distance miles away,
Mountains part the clouds,
In snowy tips so very high, the eagle makes its nest.
Its eyes are fast, its wings are strong.
The lord of the skies.

It watches the land from high above
There’s no violence to be seen,
No smelly cars or choking fog,
No fields stained in blood,
Just this calm and peaceful land,
A land forever lost.

The Cat

A butterfly dances through sweet summer blooms,
The sunlight shines through the clouds,
That drift like ships in the sky,
And rabbits and hares bound through the grass,
As the busy bee zips by.

A fluffy cat her fur so soft naps in the shade,
The gentle fronds of soft green grass,
Wave in the scented breeze,
The city rumbles far away where humans live like ants,
Scurrying through their twisting streets,
Smog clouds loom above.

Song birds are nesting in the trees,
Their song wakes the cat,
But does she care?
She does not,
She has no worries no stress or woe,
Hunger, war and illness are of no concern,
She just yawns and returns to sleep,

The life of a cat is so calm and so pure,
The life of a human so chaotic and wild,
Which would you prefer?

Restart

A vase lies shattered upon the floor,
A failed test,my teachers scorn,
A good friend lost, a simple mistake,
Nothing ever good enough for those parents of mine,
Nothings ever perfect,
Afaird of tommorow, as i am of today
Annother error, i lose my way.

Four walls surround me as white as can be,
A bookcase stands, all the books are half read,
Maybe its time to move on once again,
My bed so cold, the sheets are red,
Red like the blood that runs through my veins.

A young girls cry echos through the night,
Can anyone hear me, do they understand?
The pain of loss, of being alone
Alone in the dark, I forget all but my name
My name just noises combined to form one sound
That sound is my name?

Alone i think of a way to escape,
My past so dark, my future so bleak,
I dream of my death, a glimer of hope
A chance to die, to be reborn,
A chance to restart
And to live once more,
